Recently, Dwight Howard flew his 1 millionth Twitter follower and her son out to Orlando Magic’s season opening game. Howard states on his blog:

Twitter, Facebook and Superfan.com have been great because they are new ways for me to interact with the fans and let them know that it’s not just about playing basketball for me… I’ve also bought lunch and some copies of NBA Live 10 for some of my followers who could find me in Orlando and Atlanta during the summer, and given away free copies of NBA Live 10 on Twitter, Facebook, and Superfan to fans that could answer Dwight trivia questions.

How do you feel about celebrities using social networking sites to promote fan giveaways?  Others include Britney Spears tweeting clues to tour tickets and Ellen DeGeneres tweeting about talk show giveaways.  I agree that Twitter especially has enhanced fan interaction with many celebrities making the overall relationship more personal. Through these sites, users get to see that entertainers are real people not just the icons we see in the media. In particular to Dwight Howard, do you think it’s more important to award the millionth fan or the first 1000 fans? Don’t get me wrong because I think it is a great gesture that Dwight has been able to reward his fans; however,it seems that rewarding those who truly stand by you first seems more important.
